Shillong, June 15: The Opposition National People’s Party (NPP) today said that the alleged nexus between the Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma and the banned Hynñiewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) should be thoroughly investigated.
The demand came after state government wanted to probe into the alleged KSU-HNLC nexus in view of the recent statement issued by militant out that many have approached the outfit for logistic support.
The NPP Shillong City Political Affairs Committee (PAC) in its meeting held on Thursday, expressed serious concern over the situation arising of the standoff between the State Government and the KSU which is opposing the coming of railway line to Byrnihat in Ri Bhoi district.
“It will be of great public interest if at the same time the alleged nexus between the Chief Minister and the HNLC can also be thoroughly investigated,” NPP Shillong City general secretary, T. Pohshna said in a statement issued here.
He said that the probe should be carried out in view of the fact that the HNLC had earlier claimed that the Chief Minister was seeking the outfit’s help to win in the state Assembly election in 2018.
“The people of Meghalaya have the right to know the truth regarding the nexus by the Chief Minister, and this matter cannot be just swept away and be dismissed as politically motivated. Therefore it is fit that along with the probe into the alleged KSU-HNLC nexus, allegations against the Chief Minister have to be taken seriously by the Meghalaya police with appropriate action in the interest of justice,” Pohshna said.
