Opposition Congress to raise issue of law and order situation in state

Shillong, Aug 25: Ahead of the Autumn session of the Meghalaya Assembly, the opposition Congress in the state on Wednesday discussed the prevailing law and order situation.

Speaking to news men after the cabinet meeting, leader of opposition Dr. Mukul Sangma said that this will be an issue which the opposition will raise in the upcoming session.

“There is sense of insecurity due to the resurgence of various insurgent activities in the state and there is feeling of frustration, loss of hope and anger due to lack of opportunities,” he said.

According to the leader of opposition, the Congress will also take up the issue of insecurity among those living along the interstate border.

Dr. Sangma said that the failure of the government to instill sense of security amongst the people in the border areas has led to intrusion by people from the neighbouring state.

Alleging that there is complete lawlessness in the state, the leader of opposition said that when the government refuses to enforce the law then there is lawlessness.

“There is complete lawlessness. People who are required to enforce the provisions of the law have decided to close their eyes and act as blind,” he added.

Meanwhile, he has also asked the members from the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) to move a No-Confidence Motion against their own government.

Dr. Sangma said that if done so the opposition Congress will support it.

The six-day Autumn session is scheduled from September 10 to 17.
