SHILLONG, SEP 1: The ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 in Meghalaya has seen generation of 6,51,735 notices so far, with 5,71,989 already delivered to electors, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Dr BDR Tiwari informed on Tuesday.
The CEO today chaired online review meetings with district election machinery and with recognised national and state political parties to review progress of notice delivery, hearings, claims and objections and other activities under SIR.
“As per the latest position, 6,51,735 notices have been generated, of which 5,71,989 notices have been delivered to the concerned electors. The districts were directed to expedite the delivery of the remaining notices and ensure that the electors concerned are provided sufficient opportunity to attend the scheduled hearings and furnish the required supporting documents,” the CEO said.
Of the notices generated, 1,29,298 hearings have been conducted, which is 19.84 per cent. After verification and hearing, 297 electors have been found ineligible.
The data reviewed shows that 2,22,786 electors are under No Mapping category and 4,28,858 electors have mapping discrepancies, together accounting for 6,51,644 cases requiring verification.
“As per the data reviewed, 2,22,786 electors fall under the No Mapping category, while 4,28,858 electors have been identified with mapping discrepancies, aggregating to 6,51,644 cases requiring verification,” the CEO said.
The discrepancies include name mismatch with SIR 2005 records, mismatch in parent’s name, illogical age gaps between elector and parent, siblings and grandparents, and more than six children linked to same parent.
The CEO reiterated that no name in the draft roll will be deleted without notice, inquiry and hearing, and directed EROs and AEROs to examine each case individually and pass speaking orders.
The CEO also informed that SIR activities have resumed in East Khasi Hills from August 31 after temporary disruption due to law and order situation in Shillong.In view of the disruption, the SIR schedule has been extended by 14 days.
The last date for filing claims and objections is now September 18, for disposal of claims, objections and notice and hearing is October 17, and final publication of electoral roll is October 21.
The CEO also reviewed grievance redressal mechanisms including 1950 helpline, NGSP portal and ‘Book a Call with BLO’ facility and asked districts to attend to elector grievances promptly.
