People of Meghalaya will vote against “3Ds and Hindutva culture” of BJP: AICC leader

Shillong, Jun 01: All India Congress Committee (AICC) spokesperson, Gaurav Gogoi today said that the people of Meghalaya will vote against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming 2018 state elections.
Addressing media persons at Congress Bhavan on Thursday, Gaurav, who is the son of former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi said that the people would vote against the BJP because of it adopted a 3Ds – divide, destroy and distract – politics and Hindutva culture.
Referring to the celebration of the BJP for completing three years of the Narendra Modi-led government in office, Gogoi said that the BJP had only come up with its 3Ds model which is to divide the people on their food, religion and language.
He also challenged the BJP national spokesman Nalin S. Kohlin to debate with him on “what has the BJP done for the North East region”.
“The BJP in fact has done nothing for the NE except for taking away the special category status of the region thereby causing huge financial burden on the states,” he alleged.
According to the AICC leader, people were constantly evaluating to understand the true intention of the government led by Modi.
Referring to the recent notification on Prevention of Cruelty against Animals (Regulation of Livestock Markets) Rules, 2017, he alleged, “This notification reflects the BJP’s cow politics.”
He said this has affected cattle traders and led to the rise of cow vigilantism in which students were beaten up for protesting the notification in South India.
The AICC leader also reiterated that the people would vote against the false promises made by Modi where instead of providing 2 crore jobs, youths are encouraged to form ‘Gau-rakshas’.
Exuding confidence that the Congress will come back to power in Meghalaya in 2018, he said, “It will a protest vote against the BJP’s beef politics, which is against the culture of Meghalaya.”
“I urged the people to make a choice in term of protecting their culture, indigenous rights and space,” Gogoi said while informing that the Congress would soon go to the people and make them aware that “only the Congress can give a stable development, sound law and order and a party which promotes the true culture of Meghalaya.”
