Shillong,May 16: The ruling Congress party in Meghalaya seems to be heading into trouble times with its own legislators including ministers allegedly rebelling against the party ahead of the 2018 state elections.
The Jowai Block Congress Committee (JBCC) has sought dropping of the state power minister Sniawbhalang Dhar for his alleged anti-party activities at the constituency of the deputy chief minister RC Laloo.
“This is a fit case for the party to take strong and necessary action by dropping this minister immediately from the Cabinet and withdrawn all party posts he is holding,” JBCC president A Shullai said in a letter to the MPCC president DD Lapang yesterday.
According to him, various units of the JBCC have reported that Dhar has personally come to their village/locality and announces that he would set up a candidate from Jowai.
“As reported by the units, Dhar has also conducted several meetings in many places, some in closed doors and some in open platform directly challenge that his candidate will contest against the sitting Congress MLA,” he said.
It may be mentioned here; Jowai constituency is a Congress stronghold and has elected the Party for 5 terms,
Stating such activities have badly damaged the image of the Congress party, Shullai said, “This type of activities of the said minister should be nipped in the bud and has to be unanimously condemned by all dedicated party workers.”
