Shillong, Aug 3: Two masked individuals allegedly carried out a petrol bomb attack on the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB) office at Lumpyngngad, Shillong, on Monday afternoon.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 12:10 PM when the assailants threw a petrol bomb at the MSPCB building before fleeing the scene. The explosive struck the outer wall of the office, causing discoloration to the structure. No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident.

Police personnel, along with the Crime Scene Unit, rushed to the spot immediately after the attack. Officials secured the area, documented the scene, and collected evidence as part of the investigation.

A case has been registered at Laitumkhrah Police Station as Case No. 121(08)2026 under relevant provisions of the law. Investigators are working to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

As a precautionary measure, security at the MSPCB office has been strengthened following the incident.

In an official statement, Shri Vivek Syiem, IPS, Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, Shillong, confirmed that the attack appeared to be a targeted act of arson. He said the investigation is underway and assured that all efforts are being made to trace the perpetrators.

Police have urged anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
