SHILLONG, APR 18: The Manipuri Elders’ Consortium Shillong (MECS) on Saturday organized a silent sit-in protest against the killing of two children in the recent Tronglaobi incident in Manipur on April 7.

The peaceful gathering sought to honour the memory of the two children and stand in solidarity with their injured mother and all those affected by the violence.

The event called for unity, justice, and a collective voice for peace and humanity.

“(We) condemned the act of killing two innocent children in the recent attack that happened in Manipur on April 7, 2026,” President of MECS TS Leima told reporters at the sidelines of the protest held in Don Bosco square, Laitumkhrah here.

“We expressed our solidarity with the families of the victims and to appeal to the government to take swift action and to bring those people who had committed the crime,” she added.

Terming it a “very sad incident,” Leima said the Manipur violence “is an eye-opener for the rest of the country that illegal immigrants are the cause of such types of incidents that has happened and the nation should learn that if we do not control the illegal immigrants then there is no guarantee that such things will also not happen in other parts of the country.”
