Nongpoh July 14: After three school football teams from Ri Bhoi District participated in the State Level Subroto Cup held in Shillong City and won against teams from other districts in Meghalaya, it was a proud moment for Ri Bhoi District. None of the participating teams from Ri Bhoi lost; all three teams won and achieved victory. These schools include Presbyterian Secondary School from Ri Bhoi, which won 3-1 against Government Boys Higher Secondary School from West Garo Hills District in the Under-15 boys category.

Christian Higher Secondary School Nongpoh from Ri Bhoi District won 4-0 against Kynshai Govt LP and UP School from West Khasi Hills District in the Under-17 girls category. Mynken Christian Higher Secondary School, Nongpoh from Ri Bhoi District, won against North Liberty Higher Secondary School from West Jaintia Hills District in the Under-17 boys category.

The leaders of the Ri Bhoi District Sports Association, through the President Shri RB Shadap, expressed great joy over the victories of these school teams in the state football tournament.

It is worth noting that the football players from Ri Bhoi District were the Champions at the recent Meghalaya Games held in Tura, Garo Hills. However, despite their success, Ri Bhoi District lacks proper football fields for training. The current fields in Ri Bhoi District are merely leveled grounds without good conditions for proper training.
