Shillong Nov 30: Garo National Council (GNC) leader Augustine R Marak on Thursday said that the decision of Independent sitting legislator from Rongara-Siju constituency Rohpul S Marak at the last hour to withdraw support from the Congress-led government is a joke.
In a statement issued here, Augustine, who is also the sitting MDC in the GHADC, alleged that the independent MLA has failed to raise issues related to development of the Constituency despite being part of the government for the last five years.
Rophul had claimed that his decision for withdrawing support from the Mukul Sangma-led government was because of its failure to pay heed to various demands put forth by him for the development of the constituency.
“But he (Rophul) has failed to raise the issue pertaining to the NGT ban on coal mining, border issue, delay in the construction of the national highway-62,” Augustine said adding “He has been sleeping well in these five years because Mukul has given him a good bed with good mattress.”
He said now all of a sudden he woke up from his slumber only to present the people with a “Christmas joke” that “the MUA-II government had neglected the Rongara-Siju constituency”.
“The question is why such words did come out from him two or three years back if the MUA-II government really had neglected the constituency as alleged by him,” he said while adding that nobody will believe such last minute pretend.
He alleged that the MLA has also failed to raise the issue of setting of C&RD block at Siju area.
