Sanbor will not leave party, says NCP leader

Shillong, June 16: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) made it clear that its Meghalaya state president, Sanbor Shullai would not leave the party and would continue in the post.

Speaking to reporters here, NCP national secretary in-charge Northeast, Narendra Verma said that Shullai would not leave the party.
Earlier it was reported that Shullai may join the BJP.
“Shullai will remain in the party, and will continue our state president,” Verma said.
In the 60-member Assembly, the NCP has two MLAs – Shullai and Marthon Sangma.
Verma also said that though the NCP is supporting the Congress-led government in Meghalaya, but the party is gearing up to contest on its own, and claimed that it would provide an alternative to the people in the upcoming Assembly election next year.

Independent MLA from Gambegre, Saleng A. Sangma has also become an associate member of the NCP.
