Sawmer, Rangdajied United Eye First Win as Shillong Premier League Second Round Begins

Shillong, Aug. 3: The second round of the Shillong Premier League (SPL) 2026 gets underway on Tuesday with Sawmer SC taking on Rangdajied United FC at the SSA Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 PM, with both sides aiming to register their first victory of the campaign.

Sawmer began their season with a spirited performance despite suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to defending champions Langsning FC on July 25. Rangdajied, meanwhile, opened their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Meghalaya Police on July 28.

Last season, Rangdajied finished fifth while Sawmer secured sixth place, and both teams impressed in their opening fixtures this year despite failing to claim maximum points.

Rangdajied United, seven-time runners-up and champions in 2013, have bolstered their squad ahead of the new season. Much of their attacking threat revolves around Dameki Khongstia, although the forward was forced off with an apparent injury around the hour mark in their opening match. The arrival of former Shillong Lajong defender Henryford Nongneng has also added strength and experience to the team’s backline.

Sawmer, meanwhile, earned praise for their disciplined display against Langsning. While largely adopting a defensive approach, they remained dangerous on the counterattack through the likes of Raikutshisha Buam and Banteilang Lyngdoh. Their resilience kept the champions at bay until the 81st minute, and they will be looking to build on that encouraging performance when they face Rangdajied.

With both teams eager to kick-start their campaigns, Tuesday’s encounter promises to be a closely contested affair as the SPL 2026 enters its second round.
