Shillong,Sept. 26: A senior BJP leader Keith Pariat has decided to seek party ticket for contesting from North Shillong, a constituency represented by Congress sitting legislator Roshan Warjri, in the upcoming 2018 state elections.
Pariat a former president of the BJP Shillong City District and now a member of the party’s state level executive committee – is also presently the headman of Jaiaw Pdeng Dorbar Shnong.
The BJP will be having a tough time in deciding on the matter in view that its state vice president John Anthony Lyngdoh, a former MLA, is also an aspirant for the party ticket from the same constituency.
“His (Pariat) entry into the electoral fray was inspired by the wishes and desires of a large chunk of voters of the constituency and we hope that the party high command will grant him the BJP candidacy,” Pariat’s supporter Raja Jyrwa said in a statement issued here.
He also expressed confidence that Pariat will be a dedicated leader in delivering clean service for the upliftment of the constituency and also the state as a whole.
The supporter had also brand Pariat, a science graduate, as person who is known to be straight forward, honest and who can get along with people from all stratas of the society especially towards the needy and downtrodden.
Earlier, a youth from Police reserve had also announced that he would contest the elections from a BJP ticket, but he was expelled from the party for six years for his alleged anti-party activities.
Tony Marbaniang had earlier this year filed an FIR against BJP vice president JA Lyngdoh for falsely accusing him of proposing to contest the election just for the sake of money in a meeting held at Oakland Community Hall on May 14.
