Shillong-Guwahati road is the only symptom of development in Meghalaya, says BJP leader

Shillong, Feb 12: BJP leader, Rajiv Pratap Rudy on Monday slammed the ruling Congress over lack of development in the state, and claimed that the only symptom of development is the national highway between Shillong and Guwahati.

“The Meghalaya government has not performed. I am most amused that the only place that I could see the positive symptom of development and which of course was the work of the Union government is the beautiful road that brings you from Guwahati to Shillong,” Rudy told journalists here on Monday.

Stating that creating the state of the art infrastructure is no rocket science, he said, “To have a parallel system for road, municipality, electricity, welfare, sports, you do not require rocket science, but it is the will of the government.”

Speaking about the state of affairs in the rural areas of the state, the former Union minister said while nowhere in the country especially in the BJP ruled states talks about rural roads, electricity anymore but are talking of metros, high speed train, unfortunately in the political system of Meghalaya, has been absent.

Claiming that for the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Look East Policy has a major focus in particular in Meghalaya, he said, “Because it’s a society which is far evolved, far progressive, and far conscious, the youth are vibrant, they have aspiration but sadly the government here has not performed.”

Urging the BJP workers to work hard, he said that the vision of the Prime Minister has to be brought to the state.

Exuding confidence that the BJP would form the next government, Rudy said, scams are there because they (Congress) are the intrinsic part of the government here.

“The vision of the leadership of the Congress which has been ruling the state for very long period is absent. The Congress has lost its foothold across the country and the last few states are crumbling and one of them is Meghalaya,” he said.

As far as the BJP is concerned, Rudy said that the party has a clear manifesto which will be released shortly.

“Our manifesto talks of development. PM words matter to the people here because the government’s only religion is India first and government ‘s religious book is the Indian Constitution,” he added.
