Shillong, June 07: The Shillong Municipal Board would soon replace the electric street lights in the City with solar lights.
According to Urban Affairs Minister who is also in-charge of Municipal administration, the move to replace electric street lights in Shillong City with solar lights would help the Shillong Muncipal Board save atleast Rs 8 lakh a month which will come to nearly Rs 1 crore in a year.
He said that all these years, SMB has been paying electricity bill around Rs 8 lakh per month to the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL).
He also said that the solar lights would be installed phase-wise, and the cost installing solar lights in the City was being worked out.
