Shillong, SEPT 13: The strong supporters of the ruling Congress from Nartiang constituency has unanimously decided not to support the candidate of the party in the upcoming 2018 elections as a mark of protest against the sudden dissolution of the block.
“We will not even support the party’s sitting legislator Sniawbhalang Dhar if he would still contest on a Congress ticket,” former president of dissolved Nartiang Block Congress Committee (NBCC) Briwon Pohshna said in a statement issued here on Wednesday.
The Nartiang Block Congress Committee (NBCC) is one among the six-seven blocks dissolved by the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) recently after reports suggested that Dhar, who was earlier dropped from the cabinet, is likely to join the NPP.
However, Pohshna said that the decision of the MPCC to dissolve the block was done without any consultation with the leaders and strong supporters of the party.
“This was despite the fact that the functionaries of the dissolved block has been working very hard to further strengthen the party in the constituency ahead of the 2018 elections,” he said.
He alleged that the MPCC has taken a hasty decision which has hurt the sentiments of the supporters as this only reflects the party’s failure to respect its own people at the grass root level.
Pohshna said that as a mark of protest against the Congress’s inhumane decision, the former functionaries of the block and also those from the different primary units and polling booths have decided to quit the party.
The former president also appeal to the aspiring candidates to avoid the Congress, a party which can take hot headed decision at any time without taking into consideration the hard work put in by the grass root workers.
According to him, the dissolved block Congress committee has ensured victory to the sitting MLA for two consecutive time, which the MPCC is trying to trample upon this truth.
