SHILLONG, APR 27: A swift police response on April 25 led to the rescue of a businessman allegedly abducted from Bolsong, with North Garo Hills Police intercepting the suspect vehicle at Mansinggre within half an hour of the alert.
The Superintendent of Police, North Garo Hills, said Bajengdoba Police Station received credible information at around 3:00 PM that unidentified persons had allegedly abducted a local businessman in a silver Ertiga vehicle from the Bolsong area.
Police teams moved immediately.
“Acting promptly on the input, a police team immediately set up a naka (checkpoint) at Mansinggre,” the official release said.
The operation yielded results quickly. “At approximately 3:30 PM, the suspect vehicle was intercepted by the police. During the checking, the abducted businessman was found inside the vehicle and was rescued without delay,” the SP’s office said.
According to preliminary inquiry, the victim was targeted on the Bolsong–Agia road.
“The miscreants had allegedly intercepted the victim along the Bolsong–Agia road, forcibly stopped him, took his cash and snatched his motorcycle key and mobile phone,” the release stated.
Investigators said the accused have been identified and legal action has begun.
The release added that “during questioning, one of the accused reportedly claimed association with an NGO identified as the United Garo People’s Forum.”
Bajengdoba Police Station has registered Case No. 03/2026 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
“Further investigation is underway,” the release said.
North Garo Hills Police stressed they would act against crimes irrespective of claims of affiliation.
“The North Garo Hills Police reiterated their firm resolve against all forms of criminal activities, including offences allegedly committed under the guise of organisations or associations,” the statement said.
Appealing for public cooperation, police urged citizens to “remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious or unlawful activities to the nearest police station or control room.”
