Shillong, Feb 28: National People’s Party (NPP) leader and former KHADC chief executive member, Pynshngaiñlang N Syiem has denied the allegation that his supporters were indulging in distributing money one day before the polling.
“The allegation that my supporters were distributing money at Wahingdoh area is nothing but an attempt to tarnish my image,†Syiem, who is also the NPP candidate from Mawkhar-Pynthorumkrah, told reporters here on Thursday.
The two NPP supporters were picked up by police following an FIR filed by the Khun Hynñiewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM). They were apprehended by the people from Wahingdoh while they were allegedly trying to distribute money at night on February 26.
Syiem however admitted that the two persons are supporters of the party, but they had gone there not with his knowledge or his instruction.
On the claims that papers indicating the payment being made were also seized from their possession, Syiem said that during elections, such allegations were expected but there was no truth.
