Govt delegation yet to fix date to meet Amit Shah over ILP issue

Four government employees in secretariat test positive for COVID-19

Shillong Jan 3: There has been no confirmation as to when the government delegation will visit New Delhi to meet Union Home Minister, Amit Shah and hand over a resolution passed by the State Assembly to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state.

It was on December 19 last year that the resolution was passed by the State Assembly to urge the Centre to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya.

Health Minister, A L Hek said on Friday that no date has been fixed so far, and a decision would be taken after the return of chief minister, Conrad K Sangma to the state.

To a question whether the Centre would give ILP to Meghalaya, Hek said, “we do not know without meeting and discussing the issue. But something must have been there in the Centre’s mind.”

Hek is the BJP legislator whose party is part of the MDA government.

Hek said that the Centre may take the views of different stakeholders including the state government before taking any decision on ILP issue. “The Centre may go into the technicalities and legalities of the issue,” he said.
