Shillong, Jan 11: The United Democratic Party (UDP) on Thursday begun its election campaign from Malki ground here and urged the people to give the UDP-HSPDP alliance a mandate in the upcoming Assembly polls and form the government.
The rally was attended by candidates of the UDP and thousands of supporters who came from various constituencies.
The UDP has forged a pre-poll alliance with the HSPDP in the Khasi-Jaiñtia region, which has 36 Assembly seats, and the Garo National Council in the Garo hills, which has 24 Assembly segments.
UDP leaders, who spoke at the rally urged the people to reject national parties be it the Congress, BJP and its ally the NPP but vote for the UDP-HSPDP alliance so that the state has a government run by thew two parties.
UDP leaders Paul Lyngdoh and Jemino Mawthoh as well as the party’s Garo leaders spoke at the rally.
HSPDP president, Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit also spoke and urged people to exercise wisdom while electing people who should represent them and make laws and policies.
