Shillong, June 7: A truck was set ablaze by miscreants in the city today, even as the East Khasi Hills district administration has imposed section 144 CrPC, prohibiting assembly of five or more persons in one place following incidents of arson in Ri-Bhoi district and in the city.
It was around 12.30 pm, the truck (TN-45-AS-0599) fitted with drilling rigs, was burnt by miscreants. The truck was parked at the Industrial Estate near FCI Godown at Mawlai, police said.
The front part of the truck was damaged after a petrol bomb was lobbed on it.
According to SP (City), police have started the investigation into the incident to zero down on people involved in burning the vehicle.
A total of seven KSU leaders and members were so far arrested for their alleged involvement in arson cases in the past one week.
Meanwhile, the East Khasi Hills district administration has promulgated section 144 CrPC prohibiting assembly of five or more persons in one place, carrying of any lethal weapons, carrying of any lubricants like petrol, diesel in bottles, cans etc and any other inflammable substances.
In his order issued here, Deputy Commissioner, PS Dkhar said that the order will come into force with immediate effect from today from 6pm to 5am until further orders.
He said, the order has been issued in view of the information received that some anti social elements are indulging in arson and various other anti-social activities creating law and order problem in the district.
“These sort of activities if allowed, may cause inconvenience, disruption, obstruction, annoyance to the general public and may result in disturbance of the public tranquility or a riot or any affray within the district, unless immediately prevented,” he added.
