UDP assures free education for BPL families in manifesto

Shillong Feb 19: The UDP on Monday released its manifesto and promised to provide free education to students from below poverty line families, and ensure corruption free and good governance if elected to power.

The manifesto which was released by UDP president, Donkupar Roy in the presence of other party leaders, also assured setting up of music and sports academy, affordable healthcare, employment opportunities for the youth, tackle influx problem and others.

Other issues highlighted in the manifesto include, increasing the age bar for the youth to apply for government jobs from 27 to 32 years with five years more relaxation for SCs/STs of the state, minimum support price to take care of the extreme fluctuation of prices of rural produce like broomsticks, bay leaves and ginger, revamp the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited to ensure generation of more power to address increasing gap between power generated and requirement, adopt multi prolonged approaches tackle influx of illegal and interstate migrants in the state, setting up of small scale and cottage industries, take measures to conserve water and its sources, and supply sufficient clean water throughout the year.

The manifesto also talked about rural development, ensure sufficient income of rural population and gave major thrust to programmes related with rural development,
