UDP legislator files nominations for bypoll to Langrin constituency

Shillong Feb 17: United Democratic Party (UDP) MLA from Ranikor, Pius Marweiñ on Monday filed his nominations for the bye election to Langrin district council constituency of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), the polling of which, will be held on February 28.

Marweiñ was accompanied by UDP leaders and supporters during the filing of nomination papers.

He submitted the nomination papers before a Returning Officer at Mawkyrwat in the office of the Deputy Commissioner of South West Khasi Hills district.

The bye election is necessitated to fill up the seat which fell vacant after the death sitting MDC, Naser Marweiñ on October 28 last year.

A notification for holding the bye election was also issued on Monday, the day when the filing of nominations started.

The last date for filing of nominations is 19th February before 3:00 PM, scrutiny of nomination papers on the same day after 3:00 PM, and the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is 20th February. Finalization and publication of valid nominations and allocation of symbols is on 22nd February.

Polling will be held on 28th February from 7:00 AM till 4:00 PM and counting of votes will be held on 3rd March.
