SHILLONG, AUG 31: UDP legislator Olan Sing Suin on Monday dismissed reports of nine UDP MLAs merging with the BJP as “false news”.
“I don’t know anything about it. After the Assembly I went to my village and returned only yesterday. If my name is there, why ask me? Your credibility will be lost. You are creating the news yourself,” said the Mawsynram MLA.
On meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah, he said, “Yes, we met a month ago to discuss state issues. After that we had Assembly. I went to my village after the session.”
He added, “We have every right to meet central leaders in a democracy. We cannot depend only on the Chief Minister.”
On rumours of a rift and loss of faith in party chief Metbah Lyngdoh, Suin said, “Why would we not trust the President? Who will be President beyond him? Speculation is part of politics, but I have full faith in him. There is only one group in UDP led by Metbah Lyngdoh.”
