UDP names former CM’s son as candidate from Umroi constituency

Shillong, Nov 22: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has announced another three candidates for the upcoming 2018 Assembly elections.

These include Mangkara Pathaw, son of former chief minister J.D. Rymbai, who will be contesting from Umroi constituency, UDP general secretary and Nongthymmai MLA Jemino Mawthoh told reporters here on Wednesday after a meeting of the state election committee.

The other candidates were Nujor Sungoh, son of former MLA Mihsalan Suchiang, who will be contesting from Mookaiaw constituency, and Nehru Suting from Pynursla constituency, who will fight with Congress MLA Prestone Tynsong who is set to join the National People’s Party (NPP).

The UDP has so far announced as many as 31 candidates including the three names.

From Nartiang constituency, Mawthoh said that the party has received only one application from Marbud Kyndiah, and the same was forwarded to the Jaintia Hills District Unit for its review.

He informed that the party also held a meeting with all the candidates of Khasi-Jaintia Hills and discussed preparation for the upcoming polls as well as issues and agendas of the party.

He said that the party will also hold its general council meeting on December 15 in which the party’s manifesto and road map will be released.

“We have also asked all the district units to organize public rallies in all the districts to understand the agenda of the people ahead of the election,” Mawthoh said.
