Shillong, Sept 6: The Opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) will release its first list of candidates for the upcoming 2018 state elections here on Thursday.
“The list will be released after a meeting of the UDP’s state election committee,” UDP legislator and party’s general secretary Jemino Mawthoh said.
The UDP which forged pre-poll alliance with the HSPDP for the upcoming Assembly poll, had already finalized the seat-sharing in Khasi and Jaintia region which has 36 assembly seats.
While 17 seats have been reserved for the UDP, 10 seats went to the HSPDP. However nine constituencies have been declared as open seats, in which both the UDP and HSPDP will field their candidates for a “friendly contest.”
Altogether, the UDP will contest 27 seats, and its alliance partner, the HSPDP will field candidates in 19 seats.
Out of 19 constituencies, the HSPDP has already released its first and second list of candidates from 13 constituencies.
