Shillong, May 1: Seng Samla Umdang Pyllun pulled off a major upset in the 5th Meghalaya State League, coming from behind to defeat 2023 champions Rangdajied United FC 2-1 in a Group H clash at Mawkyrwat on Friday.
Rangdajied United took an early lead through Elnathan D Wahlang in the 15th minute, but Umdang Pyllun turned the match around in the second half. Rangkynsaistar Mawsor equalised in the 59th minute before Wanbhalang Mawsor netted the winner just four minutes later. Rangkynsaistar continues his impressive run, leading Group H’s scoring chart with six goals in five matches.
The result has thrown Group H wide open, with Umdang Pyllun moving into provisional second place, while Mawlarshong SC remain close behind with a game in hand. The defeat also marks the first loss of the season for Rangdajied United, putting their qualification hopes in jeopardy.
In Group E, Shillong Lajong FC delivered a commanding performance, thrashing Iatyllilang Lumsehkot CSC 7-0 at Wahiajer to secure qualification for the next round. Goals from Lalmuansanga (brace), Hamedamanbha Wahlang, Riborlang Lyngkhoi, Samchaphrang Lato, along with an own goal, gave Lajong a 6-0 lead at halftime, before substitute Emanbha Marbaniang added a late seventh.
Another dominant display came in Group F, where Langsning FC crushed Lawbah SC 9-0 at Mairang. Samuel Phawa and Damonlang Pathaw scored braces, while Donlad Diengdoh, Dajiedlang Wanshnong, Ronneychel Khongrangjem, and Nelson Rymbai added to the tally. Rymbai now leads the race for the tournament’s top scorer with 12 goals.
In Group G at Williamnagar, A’chik SCO Rongjeng defeated Attong Matgrik FC 5-0, powered by a hat-trick from Keri G Momin, who now shares the top scorer spot with Rymbai at 12 goals.
At Khliehriat, Rymbai Shkenshynriah SC secured top position in Group D with a 3-0 win over Thangskai Tiger, while at the MFA Ground, Mawlum Tyrsad SCC kept their qualification hopes alive with a 6-0 victory against Mulang SC Nongbah in Group B.
In Group C at Amlarem, Laskein SCSC staged a comeback to beat Amlarem SC 2-1, registering their first win of the campaign and boosting their chances of advancing.
