Shillong, Feb 27: A video showing the burning of the national flag has gone viral in Meghalaya on Thursday.
The video surfaced on Facebook Main Admin on Thursday afternoon, claimed that act was carried out to oppose the Centre’s “highhandednessâ€, and to demand for the implementation of the Inner-Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya.
In the video, the tricolour was seen being put on a wall and fuel was poured on it before it was consigned to flames.
The group/individual who had put up the video in the Facebook stated that the act was carried out to oppose the Centre’s highhandedness. There were also papers on the ground with writings demanding the implementation of the ILP, and mentioning the words “Hynñiewtrep Army.â€
“The message through this video is that the ‘Hynñiewtrep’ land is not a land where foreigners will be dumped, and that the foreigners will be ruling over us. We are masters of our own land who will govern ourselves. We are prepared,†it said.
Meanwhile chief minister Conrad K Sangma said, “whatever needs to be done, we will ensure it is done to make sure that people who disrespected the flag of this country will not go so easily.â€
“It is unacceptable totally, and the government will not let this go easily. A suo moto case has been filed and the technology is there to find out who the people areâ€
Conrad said that he has also spoke to the home minister, Lahkmen Rymbui and the Director General of police in connection with the incident.
“It is very sad and unacceptable act, and will ensure action against those responsible. We have discussed this while the MDA meeting was going on,†Conrad said after the MDA meeting on Thursday night.
