Shillong, Feb 10: The executive committee of Mawmuthoh village under Nongkrem constituency has decided to invite HSPDP leader and sitting legislator, Ardent M Basaiawmoit to attend the Dorbar to resolve the recent misunderstanding with regards to holding of election campaign at the village.
“We would soon convene a dorbar if the MLA agrees to attend as we would like to resolve the matter,†Headman of Mawmuthoh village, Riborlang Kharumnuid told reporters here on Saturday.
Earlier, Basaiawmoit had lashed out at the headman’s alleged indifferent attitude by refusing permission at the eleventh hour to the HSPDP to hold its meeting in the village.
Kharumnuid said that the reason for not granting the permission was after he was informed by a sector officer that the HSPDP had not sought any permission from the district administration to hold the meeting on February 2 at the village.
“In fact I had received a letter from the party few days prior to the meeting but when I was told that the party required permission from the district administration, I took the matter up with the executive committee, which accordingly took a call to turn down the request,†he added.
Maintaining that the village’s refusal to grant permission was not that it is against the HSPDP chief, the headman said, “We are not taking sides and it is not true that we are supporting a particular candidate as our job is just to ensure peace and tranquility.â€
After the permission was denied, the meeting of the HSPDP was held in one of the supporter’s residence.
Basaiawmoit, who was served showcause on the matter, had maintained that it was a closed-door meeting and no loudspeaker was used.
Meanwhile, the village headman said that during the meeting, Basaiawmoit has used words indirectly threatening him.
“Calling me that I behave like a street kid and that he would see me after the elections on February 27 has caused mental agony to me and my family especially my mother,†Kharumnuid said while urging the authority concerned to ensure safety to him and his family.
