Shillong, Feb 26: After the Voice of the People Party’s (VPP) thumping win in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) election, the newly elected Members of District Council (MDC) on Wednesday met at the party office in Nongkrem.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, party president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit, informed that the VPP will have a small Executive Committee of ten members which will include the Chairman, Vice-Chairman, and eight Executive Members.

Basaiawmoit said that this decision to have a small Executive Committee is to avoid wasteful expenditure as assured to the people before the elections.

“From time to time we have gone to the people against the wasteful expenditure of public funds. Therefore this is in line with the people’s expectations and the party will have to take this step,” the VPP president said.

He informed that Shemborlang Rynjah Lyngkyrdem-Laitkroh MDC will be the new Chief Executive Member of the KHADC.

According to Basaiawmoit, Strong Pillar Kharjana (Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah) will be the new Chairman of the KHADC and Kynjohlang Rangtong the Vice-Chairman.

The Executive Members will have two women – Deity Majaw (Laitumkhrah-Malki) and Aibandaplin Lyngdoh Nonglait (Mylliem), the others are Powell Sohkhlet (Pariong-Mawthadraishan), Seiborlang Warbah (Mawkynrew), Pynkhrawboklin Kharjahrin (Mawkyrwat), Winston Tony Lyngdoh (Nongthymmai) and Isynei Hinge (Umroi).

Basaiawmoit said that in line with the party’s assurance that it will streamline the working of the KHADC, the new Executive Committee will chalk a path on how to restructure the district council even if it has to take a hard decision against those misusing power or money of the council.

Meanwhile, in the JHADC, Basaiawmoit informed that the party that won eight seats will sit in the opposition.

“The party will not form the Executive Committee (in JHADC) and we will sit in the opposition,” the VPP president added.

Meanwhile, the newly elected Members of the District Council of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), will take oath on Thursday, February 27.

The oath-taking ceremony will be held at 11 am at the district council hall.

Meanwhile, on Friday, February 27, the election of the Chairman of the KHADC will be held at 11 am, and on the same day at 2 pm, the House will convene again for the election of the Chief Executive Member (CEM).

Moreover, the Governor of Meghalaya, Chandrashekhar H. Vijayashankar, has directed the East Khasi Hills, Deputy Commissioner, RM Kurbah to administer the oath to the newly elected MDCs and to conduct the election for the office of the Chairman of the KHADC.
