Shillong, August 4: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has welcomed the decision of the Executive Council of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) to grant a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to Dr. Batskhem Myrboh, paving the way for him to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha by-election.

Addressing reporters in Shillong on Tuesday, VPP President Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit said the Executive Council approved the NOC during an emergency meeting after considering Dr. Myrboh’s request.

He said the decision enables Dr. Myrboh to enter the electoral fray in compliance with the rules and guidelines of the Election Commission, removing a key procedural requirement ahead of the by-election.

Expressing confidence in the party’s nominee, Ardent said Dr. Myrboh would be a strong and capable candidate to represent the VPP in the upcoming election. He added that the party has already initiated preparations for the by-poll and is gearing up for the campaign.

The VPP president also thanked the NEHU authorities for completing the process in accordance with the university’s rules and procedures.

Describing the decision as a positive development, he said it would allow the democratic process to move forward smoothly while enabling eligible candidates to participate in the election in accordance with established norms.
