Wholesale market at Mawlong Hat parking lot to open for one week

Shillong Jun 5: The wholesale markets at Mawlong Hat parking lot and the parking lot opposite Anjalee cinema will be allowed to function for the whole one week.

This was informed by Agriculture minister, Banteidor Lyngdoh on Friday.

Lyngdoh said that from next Monday, the two wholesale markets will function for the whole week till Saturday.

“The two markets have to function because this is the season where farmers have started harvesting agricultural produces. That is why, our farmers need the markets to operate the whole week to sell their products,” the minister said.

Urging the traders and farmers to maintain cleanliness in the two parking lots, Lyngdoh said that he had also spoken to Urban affairs minister, Hamletson Dohling on the need to request the Shillong Municipal Board to take care of the issue.

Lyngdoh also urged the vegetable traders to buy from the farmers and supply the same outside the state.

Informing that each parking lot can accommodate 50 to 60 traders, Lyngdoh said that it is very important for the traders and farmers to cooperate so that the problems can be solved.

“We have to maintain discipline and follow the protocols strictly in these two markets,” Lyngdoh said.
