Youths in Umroi follow women’s example, donate money to Congress candidate

Shillong, Oct 19: Donation continued to pour in for Congress candidate from Umroi constituency, George B. Lyngdoh.
On Thursday, youths from the constituency who participated in the Umroi Block Congress Youth Assembly at Umroi Labansaro, donated some money to Lyngdoh as it was done by a group of women last week during the meeting of the Umroi Mahila Congress Committee.

 

Lyngdoh is contesting the election to the tenth Meghalaya Assembly from Umroi constituency against the current MLA, Ngaitlang Dhar, one of the richest candidates in the last 2013 Assembly election.

Lyngdoh is the eldest son of former Chief Minster (L) Evansius  K. Mawlong who had represented Umroi constituency in the past years.

The meeting saw the participation of over one thousand youths who elected the new office bearers of the Umroi Block Congress Youth Assembly in the presence of leaders of the Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress, Umroi Block Congress Committee and Mahila leaders.

Dester Hinge was elected as president of the Youth and Ailad Shadap as working president, while Foster Sohïong was chosen as general secretary.

The youths and leaders who spoke during the meeting resolved to work hard to ensure victory for Lyngdoh and the Congress party in the upcoming election, even as they urged the people of Umroi constituency not to fall into the influence of money during election. They also urged the people to vote for Lyngdoh so that he can represent the people to the state Assembly and work for the overall development of Umroi constituency in particular and the state as a whole.
