Shillong, Oct 15: Former acting Sordar (chief) of a remote village in West Khasi Hills District has expressed concern over the alleged delay of the district council’s Court to dispose of a case, where he was accused of stealing a vehicle 11 years ago.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Phamdarsis Lyngdoh Nonglait, the former acting Sordar of Dom Nongkseh village under Mawiang Syiemship told reporters that he had to appear before the district council court almost every month since 2007, but no necessary order has been passed by the court till date.

Nonglait said that he along with 6 others were accused of trying to steal a truck by the then Syiem of Mawiang in an FIR filed in 2007.

He alleged that the FIR was filed after an incident where a group of people had assaulted him in his residence just because two persons from the village had falsely accused him and 6 others of involving in a theft case that took place in another village.

According to him, when the incident happened he was the acting Sordar of the village.

Stating that the delay in delivering justice had earned him a bad reputation in the eye of the society, Nonglait said, “I urged the state government to intervene into the matter. If I had done wrong let me face the consequences as per law.”

The former Sordar said that he was never made aware whether there is any charge-sheet filed by the police with regards to the case, adding that he may be compelled to also seek the intervention of the Meghalaya High Court to get justice.
