Shillong, June 10: The Saikia Company, a contractor of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) on Monday released Rs 2.50 lakh as compensation to the family of Meghalaya home guard personnel, late Dismarlin Lyngdoh Lyngkhoi, who died after he was assaulted by truck drivers in April this year in Ri-Bhoi district.

The money was handed over by Bipul Saikia, owner of the company to (L) Dismarlin’s wife Fatima Nonglang during a meeting convened by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Mawlai at Mawlai Mawroh on Monday.

This came after a one month deadline was served by the Joint Action Committee (JAC).

(L) Dismarlin, the home guard deployed at the FCI godown at Mawsami village, Ri Bhoi district succumbed to injuries after he was brutally assaulted by four truck drivers of the company on April 24.

After the meeting, secretary of the JAC, Seiborlang Lyngdoh Nonglait announced that the two children of the victim were also given job appointment by the Civil Defence & Home Guard, and the Saikia Company.

Nonglait also informed that the Saikia Company has offered a handsome reward to anybody who has information about the whereabouts of the four truck drivers.

He said the development was an outcome of the effort put in by the JAC which has conducted a follow up on the case for the past one month adding “We take this as a victory of the people of Mawlai, who have join hands in the fight of the JAC for ensuring justice to the victim and his family.”

Chairman of the JAC, Donboklang Kharlyngdoh said as demanded by the JAC, the authorities concerned have also transferred two employees for their failure to inform about the incident and help the victim get immediate medical attention after the incident.

While Makbul Haque, who is the Manager (QC)/ Depot in-charge FCI MSWC Khanapara, was transferred to Tura, West Garo Hills District, home guard Bhim Bahadur has been posted to FCI at Williamnagar, East Garo Hills District, he said.

Kharlyngdoh also informed that the ME Trade and Transport of the Company has also tendered an apology before the family members because of act committed by the drivers.

The JAC reiterated its demand for immediate arrest of the culprits and ensure that they are booked as per law and urged the company to ensure that such incident do not repeat in future.
