Shillong, Sept 17: Former KHADC member, James Sylliang was appointed as the state president of the Republican Party of India (A).
The Meghalaya state unit of the party was formed during a meeting held in the city on Tuesday.
The RPI (A) is led by Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Ramdas Athawale.
Speaking to reporters, Sylliang said that he has accepted the position as president of the party in Meghalaya.
“The party is for the interest of the indeginous people of the state and other North Eastern states.”
He informed that the state party will soon finalize names of office bearers and send to the central leadership in New Delhi for approval.
“Once this is done, we will move forward in forming units in different parts of the state of Meghalaya,” he said.
Sylliang said that the party would take up various issues concerning the state which include boundary dispute, the need to implement Inner Line Permit.
“We would soon meet the chief minister Conrad K Sangma and seek his intervention into the matters,†he said.
