Shillong, Nov 19: The Petroleum Dealers Association of Meghalaya (PDAM) has resolved to call for a ‘no purchase, no sale’ strike on November 25.

The decision was taken following the closure of supplies to four petrol pumps (retail outlets) in Meghalaya by the Assam Petroleum Mazdoor Union (APMU).

The four retail outlets include M/s Mylliem Service Station (Mylliem-HPCL), M/s Ri-Lyngngam Service Station (Riangdo-IOCL) and M/s Power Point Service Station (Khliehriat-HPCL) belonging to four dealers who are closely related to each other.

Addressing media persons on Tuesday, president of the association and former MLA, Kennedy Khyriem said, the four dealers have been suffering and incurring severe loss as their retail outlets have been closed down due to unlawful demands of the APMU operating at the loading point in the terminal of the Oil Marketing Companies – Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, Hindustan Corporation Ltd located at Lokhra, Betkuchi, Guwahati, Assam.

He said the four dealers have jointly filed a writ petition before the Guahati High Court, which in its order September 20, suspended the unlawful directive of APMU, to close supplies to their petrol pumps.

According to him, the order passed by the court had been furnished to all – Oil Marketing Companies and the district administrations.

“However, the court order was not implemented, and supplies were closed, including the continuance of illegal, arbitrary and vexatious activities of members of the independent organisation namely Assam Petroleum Mazdoor Union (APMU) working under the ages of the Oil Marketing Companies, namely Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and Indian Oil Corporation Limited thereby preventing the Dealers from loading Petroleum products at the supply location i.e, the Tap Off Point, at Betkuchi, Guwahati rendering the interim protection granted by the High Court redundant and non-est in violation of their fundamental rights,” he said.

Khyriem said in view of this, the association has resolved to call for a No purchase no sale strike on November 25 demanding immediate permission to the 4 dealers to load MS and HSD and let them continue the trade.

“All concerns are given five days to comply with the said directions and arrive at a decision, failing which, there will be a strike of No purchase no sale of Petroleum products from the midnight of November 25 to the midnight of November 26, and the Association shall not be responsible for any law and order situation that may arise there from,” he said.
