Shillong, June 8:Stranded residents of Meghalaya, who are returning to the State have to bear travel expenses from June 11 onwards, but the state government would continue to arrange the vehicles for them.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong informed on Monday that the state government would bear the travel expenses for the returnees only till June 10.
So far, 13,990 residents of Meghalaya, who had been stranded in other parts of the country, re-entered the state till Monday.
The number of stranded people who had registered with the government to come home was 10,288, and these were eligible for free transportation. However, we have gone beyond this number for their safety, and we need to stop somewhere,†Tynsong said.
He said that people entering the State from June 11 onwards, would have to pay the transportation charge while travelling in vehicles arranged by the government from either Guwahati Railway Station or Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport.
However, Tynsong said that registration of all returnees from outside the state is mandatory through the Corona Web App.
“All returnees will have to undergo temperature screening, Rapid Test Kit and RT PCR if they have come from high risk areas outside the state. Various screening points have been setup across the State, he said, adding that Deputy Commissioners of respective districts also have been empowered to handle entrants in case of need
Health and Family Welfare Minister A L Hek informed on Monday that of 11475 samples sent for test in the state for COVID-19 so far, 11,009 yielded negative results, while the results of 430 tests are awaited.
Meghalaya has registered 36 COVID-19 positive cases, including one death, 13 recoveries and 22 active cases. There are 785 persons who are staying in institutional quarantine centres.
