Shillong, October 8: Justice Soumen Sen today took oath as the new Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court. The oath was administered by Governor Chandrashekhar H. Vijayashankar at a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan, Shillong.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, Leader of Opposition Dr. Mukul M. Sangma, senior government officials, and dignitaries including DGP Idashisha Nongrang, IPS.
Justice Sen’s appointment follows the retirement of former Chief Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji on September 5, upon reaching the age of superannuation. His elevation was approved by President Droupadi Murmu, following a recommendation by the Supreme Court Collegium on September 11.
Born on July 27, 1965, in Kolkata, Justice Sen completed his schooling at St. Lawrence High School and earned his LLB from the University of Calcutta in 1990, standing first in his examination. He enrolled as an advocate under the Bar Council of West Bengal in January 1991 and practiced at the Calcutta High Court before being elevated as a judge of the same court on April 13, 2011.
