Shillong, October 8, 2025: The Meghalaya State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has urged the state government to review the eligibility criteria for the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) examinations for Meghalaya Civil Service (MCS) and Meghalaya Police Service (MPS) posts.
Addressing media persons at the BJP office in Shillong, party spokesperson Mr. M. Kharkrang said that the BJP has submitted a petition to Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, requesting the government to allow final-year undergraduate students to appear for the MCS and MPS competitive examinations.
Kharkrang noted that the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) permits final-year students to apply for the Civil Services Examination, provided they obtain their degree before the main examination. However, the MPSC currently restricts applications only to graduates, which, he said, limits opportunities for many aspiring youths in Meghalaya.
He further pointed out that since the MCS and MPS examinations are held only once every five years, the current restriction prevents students who are just months away from completing their degrees from participating.
“If final-year students are allowed to apply, it will open more opportunities and give them valuable experience in the competitive process,” Kharkrang said.
The BJP expressed hope that the government will consider the proposal while restructuring the MPSC. Kharkrang also commended the state government’s recent decision to remove interviews for Grade IV posts, calling it a positive step towards transparency and fairness in recruitment.
