SHILLONG, FEB 3: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Meghalaya on Monday lauded the Union Budget 2026–27, stating that it reflects the Centre’s strong commitment to growth and overall development.
Party spokesperson Maraiahom Kharkrang expressed gratitude to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for what he described as a “trail-setting” budget.
Highlighting the Centre’s economic performance, Kharkrang said India has witnessed steady economic growth, controlled inflation, and significant reforms in key sectors such as employment generation, agriculture, and enhancement of household purchasing power.
“India’s economy has grown steadily over the past 12 years due to the focused and decisive leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said.
The BJP leader asserted that Meghalaya stands to benefit from the Budget and various centrally sponsored schemes, particularly in the areas of infrastructure and connectivity, noting that several major projects are currently underway in the State.
Kharkrang also welcomed the recently announced India–USA trade deal, stating that it would prove mutually beneficial for both countries and further strengthen India’s global economic engagement.
