Shillong, Apr 16: Nangkiew Irat SC kicked off their debut campaign in the 5th Meghalaya State League (MSL) in emphatic fashion, thrashing Mulang SC Nongbah 9-0 in a Group B clash at the MFA Ground on Friday.

Holding a comfortable 3-0 lead at half time, Nangkiew Irat turned on the style in the second half, adding six more goals as Mulang struggled, particularly after Dawanlangki Susngi was sent off following a double yellow card.

Sangti Janai Shianglong (12’, 56’) and Banshanlang Nongdhar (21’, 85’) grabbed braces, while Brolington Warlarpih (26’), Dibinroy Nongspung (57’, 88’) and Restom Khriam (90’) also found the net in a dominant display.

Mawlai SC, Maram FC Register Wins

In Group C, defending champions Mawlai SC began their title defence with a 3-1 victory over Amlarem SC at Amlarem.

Meanwhile, in Group G, Maram FC edged past A’chik SCO Rongjeng 3-2 in Williamnagar. Both venues hosted MSL matches for the first time.

Rangdajied United Fight Back

There was a scare for 2023 champions Rangdajied United FC, who came from behind to defeat Mawten SC 2-1 in Mawkyrwat (Group H).

Mawten took the lead through Wellberjune Lyngdoh (45’), but Firstborn Roy Khongsti equalised in the 69th minute before Freelyson Tariang (81’) struck the winner late in the game.

Umkaber SCC Snatch Late Winner

In Group A at the SSA Stadium, Umkaber SCC staged a comeback to beat Mawshun SCC 3-2 in a thrilling encounter.

After Niki Khonglam (16’) gave Mawshun the lead, Pynshaibor Kharbteng (37’, 46’) turned the game around. Bradley Masynting (72’) equalised, but Toberwel Marngar struck in stoppage time (90’+1) to seal victory.

Shillong Lajong Cruise, Thangskai Tiger Edge Tight Clash

In Group E, Shillong Lajong FC defeated Lumphyrnai Sohphoh FC 3-0 in Wahiajer. After a goalless first half, Samchaphrang Lato (51’), Riborlang L Lyngkhoi (57’) and Banlamkupar Rynjah (81’) scored to ensure a comfortable win.

In Group D, Thangskai Tiger SC narrowly beat Ladthadlaboh SC 1-0 in Khliehriat, courtesy of a 68th-minute strike by captain Phermedaki Syrti.
