Shillong, Apr 16: Nangkiew Irat SC made a sensational debut in the 5th Meghalaya State League (MSL), thrashing Mulang SC Nongbah 9-0 in a one-sided Group B encounter at the MFA Ground on Friday.
Leading 3-0 at the break, Nangkiew Irat added six more goals in the second half as Mulang struggled to cope, particularly after Dawanlangki Susngi was sent off for a second booking.
Sangti Janai Shianglong (12’, 56’) and Banshanlang Nongdhar (21’, 85’) netted braces, while Brolington Warlarpih (26’), Dibinroy Nongspung (57’, 88’) and Restom Khriam (90’) also got on the scoresheet in a commanding performance.
Mawlai SC Come from Behind; Maram Hold On
Defending champions Mawlai SC overcame an early setback to defeat Amlarem SC 3-1 in Group C at Amlarem.
Amlarem took the lead through Foulmi Khongiong (11’), but Mawlai equalised just before half time via Fairming Suting (45’+3). The champions then sealed the win with quickfire goals from Damanbhalang Chyne (63’) and Fairming again (67’).
In Group G, Maram FC built a 3-0 lead against A’chik SCO Rongjeng through Santosh Teron (30’), Easter Salchang Ch Sangma (51’) and Tremarchwal Ch Marak (75’).
However, a late fightback saw ASCOR pull two goals back via Dinggrik D Momin (76’) and Klubarth M Sangma (79’), though Maram held on for a 3-2 victory. Both matches were played at new venues this season — Amlarem and Williamnagar.
Rangdajied Rally to Avoid Upset
2023 champions Rangdajied United FC were pushed hard by Mawten SC in Group H at Mawkyrwat.
Mawten led through Wellberjune Lyngdoh (45’), but Rangdajied responded in the second half with goals from Firstborn Roy Khongsti (69’) and Freelyson Tariang (81’) to secure a 2-1 comeback win.
Umkaber Edge Thriller; Lajong Cruise
In Group A at the SSA Stadium, Umkaber SCC came from behind to beat Mawshun SCC 3-2 in a dramatic contest.
Mawshun went ahead through Niki Khonglam (16’), but Pynshaibor Kharbteng (37’, 46’) turned the game around. Bradley Masynting (72’) levelled matters before Toberwel Marngar struck deep into stoppage time (90’+1) to seal victory for Umkaber.
Meanwhile, in Group E, Shillong Lajong FC defeated Lumphyrnai Sohphoh FC 3-0 in Wahiajer. After a goalless first half, goals from Samchaphrang Lato (51’), Riborlang L Lyngkhoi (57’) and Banlamkupar Rynjah (81’) ensured a comfortable win.
Thangskai Tiger Edge Jaintia Derby
In Group D at Khliehriat, Thangskai Tiger SC edged past Ladthadlaboh SC 1-0 in a closely fought Jaintia Hills clash, with captain Phermedaki Syrti scoring the decisive goal in the 68th minute.
