SHILLONG, MAY 8: The Commission of Inquiry probing the Thangsko blast incident, headed by Justice (Retd) RS Chauhan, concluded its three-day sitting at the State Guest House in Shillong on Friday.
According to a statement issued by the Secretary of the Commission of Inquiry, the panel recorded submissions from several government agencies, trade bodies, and relatives of the victims during the proceedings held from May 6 to May 8.
During the sitting on May 6, the Commission heard submissions from the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) and Head of Forest (HoFF), Shillong, Central Mine Planning and Design Institute Ltd. (CMPDIL), Ranchi, the Ministry of Coal, New Delhi, and the Directorate of Mineral Resources (DMR), Shillong.
On May 7, submissions were recorded from the Shallang Area Trader Association, West Khasi Hills, and the South West Khasi Hills Mine Owners and Exporter Association.
The final day of the sitting on May 8 included submissions from the North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC), the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), and relatives of the victims.
“The next sitting of the Commission will be held from the 13th to 15th July 2026,” the statement said.
“The Commission will visit the incident site on the 13th July, 2026, and will continue to conduct an enquiry,” it added.
The Commission has also issued a public notice in English and local newspapers inviting individuals wishing to depose or make further submissions to contact the Secretary, Commission of Inquiry, Room 228, Main Building, Meghalaya Secretariat, Shillong, or submit representations through email.
