Nongpoh, May 28: Jeff Sohtun, a leader and member of the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) serving as an office bearer of the Laban Circle unit under the East Khasi Hills District, has brought pride to Meghalaya after registering a sensational victory at a major MMA event.
Apart from his social service activities, Sohtun, a resident of Laban Lumparing, is widely known for his passion for fitness, bodybuilding and mixed martial arts. He has actively participated in several sporting activities and has steadily built a reputation as a prominent MMA fighter from the state.
Speaking to reporters in Nongpoh following his participation in the Matrix Fight Night (MFN), organised by Wild-Cage Hades MMA, Sohtun said there was a sudden change in the fight schedule shortly before the event. According to him, the opponent he had initially prepared to face was replaced at the last moment.
He admitted that the unexpected development briefly affected his confidence, as his training and preparation had been specifically planned for the original opponent. However, upon learning the identity of his new challenger, Sohtun decided to proceed with the bout despite the difficulty of the challenge.
The replacement opponent was none other than Pakram Dogra, a highly regarded MMA fighter popularly known as the “Undefeated” fighter and recognised by many as one of India’s top MMA competitors.
Despite facing a much-fancied opponent, Sohtun produced a remarkable performance and defeated Dogra in the very first round within just two minutes, stunning spectators and fellow fighters alike.
Following his achievement, Sohtun received a warm reception from leaders and members of the HNYF at Nongpoh. Those present included HNYF Ri Bhoi president Hasting Lyngdoh, general secretary Alfred Malai, sports secretary Birbol Khongbeh, education secretary Donroi Kshiar, Sengkmie secretary Tyllibor Swer, HNYF East Khasi Hills District secretary, and Sengkmie vice-president Barnabas Manih, among others.
The felicitation programme was held at the Nongpoh Town Shopping Complex in Nongpoh.
