Shillong, August 23: President of the All Khasi Meghalaya Tourist Taxi Association, Bah Regaldus Dohling, has welcomed the outcome of a meeting convened by Deputy Chief Minister and Transport Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar at the State Secretariat on Sunday to address the disruption of tourist taxi services between Meghalaya and Assam.

Speaking after the meeting, Dohling said the discussions were positive and that the taxi associations had agreed to cooperate with the government in restoring the unrestricted movement of vehicles between the two states.

He said the Meghalaya Government had assured the associations that it would take up the matter with the Assam Government by September 10 with the aim of finding a lasting solution to the dispute.

Dohling appealed to taxi operators and members of the public in both states to exercise restraint and avoid any form of retaliation, stressing that innocent passengers and drivers should not be subjected to harassment.

He expressed hope that tourist taxis bearing Meghalaya and Assam registration numbers would henceforth be allowed to operate without obstruction.

“Disputes should be resolved through dialogue between the governments and the associations concerned,” Dohling said, urging all sides to work towards restoring normal movement and ensuring the safety of passengers and drivers.
