Shillong, August 24: Hynñiewtrep Youths’ Council (HYC) leader Emlang Sawian on Monday filed a Right to Information (RTI) application before the office of the Deputy Commissioner, seeking clarity on the status of the Lum Survey issue and the proposed eviction of alleged illegal occupants from the area.

Speaking to the media, Sawian said the HYC had been pursuing the matter for some time and had repeatedly urged the district administration to take appropriate action against those allegedly occupying the area illegally.

He said the district administration had earlier invited the HYC to participate in an inspection of Lum Survey. A delegation led by the organisation’s president attended the inspection, but the HYC has yet to receive any concrete information on the action taken following the exercise.

According to Sawian, the district administration had earlier stated that the matter was pending before a court. The RTI application consequently seeks details of the status of the legal proceedings, any court orders or eviction directions related to the matter, and the steps taken by the government and district administration.

The HYC expressed hope that the Public Information Officer in the Deputy Commissioner’s office would furnish the requested information within the timeframe prescribed under the RTI Act.
