SHILLONG, AUG 31: Lawyers in Meghalaya will abstain from court work from September 1 to demand the removal of Advocate General Amit Kumar.

The decision was taken unanimously at an emergent joint meeting of the High Court of Meghalaya Bar Association and the Shillong Bar Association on Monday, following up on the August 24 resolution of all Bar Associations in the state.

The associations said the government has not engaged with them despite their demand over actions that allegedly damaged the “dignity, welfare and interest of the Bar.”

The boycott will continue till Kumar is removed from office, though bail matters will be exempted.
