Shillong, September 13: Holy Cross Parish, Mawkynrew, celebrated its 39th Parish Day on Sunday, drawing a large gathering of faithful from villages across the Mawkynrew area.

Established in 1987, the parish is administered by priests of the Congregation of Holy Cross (CSC), who have served the spiritual and pastoral needs of the Catholic community in the region for nearly four decades.

The solemn Holy Mass was presided over by Most Rev. Bernard Laloo, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Shillong. He was joined by Parish Priest Fr. John Valan, CSC, and Assistant Parish Priest Fr. Arul Jenathan, CSC.

In his homily, Bishop Laloo urged the faithful to remain steadfast in their faith, strengthen unity within their families and society, and live out Christian teachings through love, service and mutual understanding.

The celebration also marked an important spiritual milestone for the parish, with 40 children receiving their First Holy Communion and 150 young parishioners receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation.

The occasion provided the faithful with an opportunity to express gratitude for the dedicated service of the Holy Cross Fathers and all those who have contributed to the parish’s 39-year journey.

Following the Mass, Parish Day festivities were held, with parishioners enthusiastically participating in various programmes. The celebration reflected the community’s enduring faith, unity and spirit of thanksgiving.

The Parish Pastoral Council also honoured and acknowledged the contributions of priests, religious brothers and sisters, church elders and other workers who have served tirelessly towards the growth and development of Holy Cross Parish, Mawkynrew.
