Nongpoh, SEPT 12: Sonidan village in Ri-Bhoi district is set to receive two major development projects with a combined estimated value of over ₹6.78 crore.

The foundation stones for the projects were laid in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui and local MLA Charles Marngar.

The projects include the construction of a new building for Sonidan Government Lower Primary School, estimated to cost more than ₹78 lakh, and the development of internal roads connecting different localities within the village, for which over ₹6 crore has been sanctioned.

Speaking at the programme, government representatives urged residents to cooperate with the implementing agencies and actively monitor the progress of the works. They also stressed the importance of ensuring that public funds are used properly and that the projects are completed according to approved standards.

The initiatives are expected to improve educational infrastructure and strengthen road connectivity within Sonidan and neighbouring areas.

As a gesture of appreciation, village leaders presented baskets of vegetables to Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui and MLA Charles Marngar.

While political credit for the projects may be a matter of debate, their real impact will ultimately depend on timely completion, quality execution and the benefits delivered to the people of Sonidan.
