Shillong, October 28: West Shillong MLA Paul Lyngdoh joined the National People’s Party (NPP) at an induction programme held at the party office in Polo, Shillong, on Tuesday, marking a new phase in his political career.

The programme was attended by a large gathering of supporters, along with NPP national president and Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, state president Prestone Tynsong and senior leader Sniawbhalang Dhar.

Addressing the gathering, Lyngdoh reflected on his journey from student activism to public life and regional politics, describing his entry into the NPP as the beginning of another chapter in his service to the people.

Explaining his decision to join the party, Lyngdoh narrated a story about a young boy who inherited a watch from his grandfather. While several shops offered only modest amounts for the watch, a museum recognised its distinctive value and offered a much higher price.

Drawing a parallel with politics, he said leaders needed to find an organisation that recognised their worth, valued their contributions and provided opportunities to serve. He expressed confidence that he had found such a political family in the NPP.

Lyngdoh stressed that public representatives should bring meaningful transformation by adding value to the responsibilities entrusted to them. He said leaders must work to ease people’s difficulties and create greater opportunities for the younger generation.

He identified education and healthcare as key areas for Meghalaya’s development, emphasising the need for leadership that enables young people to realise their potential.

Highlighting the importance of unity among the Khasi, Jaintia and Garo communities, Lyngdoh recalled their shared participation in the movement for Meghalaya’s statehood. He called for greater cooperation among the communities, stressing the need to recognise their common history and strengthen their bonds.

Lyngdoh concluded by urging collective responsibility and sustained efforts to bring meaningful progress to Meghalaya.
